Tina Jiao

Tina Jiao is a Chinese maker specialising in traditional jade carving techniques such as the ‘Devil’s work ball’ and chain carving. She is dedicated to preserving these ancient techniques, which are an integral part of her cultural heritage. Having trained with a jade carving master in China, her work reimagines jade jewellery by blending the craftsmanship of her heritage with personal contemporary influences. Tina’s creations explore themes of multiculturalism, movement, and individuality, offering a distinctive interpretation of centuries-old techniques. Through her work, she bridges the past and present, pushing the boundaries between solidity and fluidity to create pieces that express her unique cultural identity. She primarily uses ‘non-precious’ jade – typically intended for mass-produced tourist trinkets – challenging conventional perceptions of value and elevating overlooked materials through her technical skill.
