OPEN CALL: 30th International Jewellery Competition
The Gallery of Art in Legnica has announced the topic of the 30th International Jewellery Competition. This time the organisers have decided to encourage artists to reflect on what touch is – a sense particularly close to jewellery, carrying with it a load of intimacy and safety, but also – in recent times – of fear and danger. How – as the humankind – do we find ourselves in the era of digital media, touch screens, disappearance of direct interpersonal relations and pandemic reality?
The aim of the Competition is a wide presentation of the latest achievements of contemporary jewellery art. The works should be jewellery in a broad sense of the word, represent a high artistic and executive level, include an original creative concept and a clear reference to the theme of the Competition. The Organizers do not set any limits as to the materials and techniques used. However, emphasizing the 40-year tradition of the Festival, we suggest the use of silver.
The deadline for submissions closes on 27 March 2022.
The winners of the Competition will be announced during the culmination of the Legnica SILVER Festival, which will take place on 13-14 May 2022.

The Vessel – an online magazine about crafts and material culture
In November Norwegian Crafts launched The Vessel, a new online magazine showcasing making practices, visual expression, and material knowledges from a multitude of perspectives.
Norwegian Crafts was originally set up as an online magazine designed to promote Norwegian craft artists internationally nearly ten years ago. Since then, the organisation’s programming portfolio has grown to include exhibitions, grant schemes, seminars, residencies, and much more. With The Vessel, we hope to entice more people to immerse themselves in craft, making practices and material culture.
Craft-specific mediation and theory is important because it provides precise tools for artists, researchers, curators, and writers to discuss matters pertinent to a making practice, without borrowing too heavily from a fine art vernacular, which is often the risk.

The Vessel collaborates with external editors, artists, and writers to make the content of each issue relevant to people from different geographies and backgrounds. Norwegian Crafts opts to recruit new editors for each issue and leave the commissioning of articles and other content up to them.

Issue 1: Living Archives
The first issue, titled Living Archives, focuses on how artists use archives, museum collections, and knowledge-holders to resurrect endangered making practices, and how these making practices relate to identity, community, and land. The Vessel: Living Archives features interviews with artist and weaver Matthew McIntyre Wilson, artist and crafts practitioner Åsne Kummeneje Mellem, and textile artist Hilde Hauan Johnsen. The issue also includes essays by instrument maker Tāmihana Kātene and writer and photographer Susanne Hætta.
The inaugural issue of The Vessel was edited by curator of the Sámi collection at Norsk Folkemuseum Káren Elle Gaup, collection manager Kaitiaki Taonga at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Cameron Woolford and ceramic artist and associate professor at Oslo Academy of the Arts Marte Johnslien.
Archives and museums are perhaps the first words that come to mind when thinking of the preservation of knowledge. But for us, it was important to extend the concept and to approach the topic of the archive with a holistic perspective, and to look at the role of contemporary crafts in the preservation of knowledge and continuation of traditions.

Munich Jewellery Week 2022 – Submission Form online
Following last year’s success — our beautiful printed publication featuring 500+ artists sold out in days and was sent to doorsteps all over the world, — we are thrilled to offer more ways to be a part of Munich Jewellery Week 2022!
In these times of uncertainty and continuous travel restrictions, we see an urgency for a global dialogue and exchange. As we witness contemporary jewellery community fabulously expand its geographical, material and media boundaries, it feels like this is the right time to embrace change, openness and diversity.
With this in mind, and same as last year, we open Munich Jewellery Week Paper for submissions from all over the world. Once again, we invite Artists, Curators, Collectives, Academies, Galleries and Cultural Institutions across the Globe to contribute to a beautiful printed publication designed and published by Current Obsession, and delivered directly to the doorsteps of visitors who aren’t able to travel to Munich, or would like to enjoy a tangible copy of the Week at home.
