Munich Jewellery Week 2021
The annual Munich Jewellery Week showcases avant-garde contemporary jewellery by both established and up-and-coming designers from all around the world. This unique phenomenon is the most significant event on the contemporary jewellery calendar that sets the pace for the contemporary jewellery field.
Hundreds of makers, students, educators and collectors come to Munich to be inspired by MJW’s motley programme, which ranges from artist-run exhibitions, book launches and lectures, to performances, mobile presentations and parties. What began as a collection of independent city exhibitions, has gradually and organically expanded to now include a remarkable 100+ initiatives, establishing in the process a dynamic self-organised community of local and international artists.
MJW is an independent initiative that supports and communicates information about the jewellery exhibitions that are held across the city each year in parallel with the International Trade Fair for the Skilled Trades at the Handwerksmesse and its historic jewellery exhibitions: Meister der Moderne, Schmuck and Talente.
Jewellery Magazine and Platform Current Obsession coined the title Munich Jewellery Week in 2015 to give a name to this extraordinary collective effort and to associate it with other professional fashion and design weeks around the world. Current Obsession’s aim is to represent the multitude of impressive independent events as a whole, to give them a recognisable visual identity and to offer clear information to new participants, press and international visitors.
